As part of its efforts to ensure a safe society devoid of all forms of Sexual and gender based violence for women and girls, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has taken its fight to the Lagos State University with perspective of marking the 16 days of Activism against sexual and gender-based violence within the citadel of learning.

Speaking at the one-day workshop in collaboration with UN Women under a Gender and Safe Space Summit themed: ‘UNITE! Invest, Prevent Violence against Women and Girls’ the MWAPA Commissioner; Hon. Cecilia Bolaji Dada, who was represented by the Director, Finance and Accounts of the Ministry; Mrs. Kuburat Olanrewaju Lawal, charged students in tertiary institutions as well as Civil Society Organizations to invest in the fight to end gender – based violence amongst women and girls, in order to achieve a safe academic environment.

Th event was marked by honorary awards to the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello MIN, NPOM, as the ‘ICON of Gender Safety for Nigeria and West Africa’ as well as the UN Women Deputy representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS Mr. Lansana Wonnen who was honoured with credence in Leadership.
