LAGOS TRAIN AUDITORS ON “DEVELOPING RESULT-DRIVEN AUDIT WORK PROGRAMMES”

The Lagos State Acting Auditor-General, Mr. Adewuyi Monshood Adewale has reiterated the importance of continuous training and retraining of the state’s auditors towards effective and efficient auditing service in Lagos.

Adewale made this known on Tuesday in his address at a two-day workshop organised for Auditors on Grade Levels 10-14, by the Office of the State Auditor General with the theme: “Developing Result-Driven Audit Work Programmes”, held at the Tax Professionals’ House, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, CBD, Alausa-Ikeja.

Adewale said that auditors who are not properly trained will not be useful to the service because knowledge is so important in auditing, adding that it is important that auditors have adequate knowledge about their jobs for effective and efficient delivery.

“The theme was specifically chosen because we know you cannot carry out the work of audit without having effective programmes for audit objectives. Audit programmes are very important in carrying out our work”, he said.

Adewale stated further that the workshop is very important to the auditors because it will guide them appropriately in carrying out their audit assignments, saying “This is why we have chosen the topic for the training of the participants”, Adewale said.

Olatunji Fanifosi, Principal Partner, Olatunji Fanifosi & Co, Chartered Accountants, the facilitators of the training programme, said the workshop is primarily designed to train auditors in the office of the State Auditor-General.

According to him, audits have now become more scientific, hence it is important to build the capacity of the auditors towards developing an audit work programme to deliver their statutory responsibilities effectively.

Olalekan Salaudeen, Assistant Director of Audit, Office of the State Auditor-General, said that the auditors must participate actively and garner the required knowledge to deliver effectively on their assigned duties, noting that the title of the workshop is key to delivering efficient audit services in Lagos.
