The Lagos State Government held a stakeholders meeting with community leaders and residents of Shomolu Bariga on Tuesday at the ‘Love Lagos’ Jetty, Bariga/Ilaje Waterfront, in an effort to educate and sensitise the locals to embrace water transportation as a way to relieve traffic on the roads and a less expensive alternative.

In order to make life easier and more convenient for Lagosians, the Commissioner of Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Oshiyemi, gave the residents of Governor Sanwo-Olu his love and support for the integration of various modes of transportation, such as roads, rails, and waterways. Mrs. Fadekemi Emmanuel represented the Commissioner in this regard.

Oshiyemi noted that over 24 routes have been established within Lagos Waterways, with the government continuously renovating old jetties and building new, contemporary ones to open up new areas to the waterways, all the while emphasising that water transportation remained the fastest, safest, most comfortable, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

In his remarks, Mr. Abdoulbaq Ladi-Balogun, the Managing Director of Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY), urged the community to take control of the Love Lagos Jetty in Bariga to guarantee a convenient and hassle-free mode of transportation as the third mainland bridge repairs are about to come to an end.

“As the federal government prioritises the rehabilitation of the Third-Mainland Bridge, it would be more convenient for the public to utilise the waterways at this time, particularly for transportation to Lagos Island, Ikorodu, and Badagry,” he stated. There are plenty of LAGFERRY boats at Ilaje-Bariga’s Love Jetty, along with a large parking lot. They are prompt, efficient, cosy, and safe.

Safety is the top priority in all facets of LAGFERRY’s operations, which include the largest fleet of 20 boats of any sub-national. mandatory life jacket use and routine boat maintenance. Our first priority in everything we do is safety. A package of personal accident insurance is also included in the safety measures. Every passenger travelling on a LAGFERRY boat is completely insured for every journey and route we presently travel,” he said.

Traditional leaders, market leaders, political figures, legislators, young leaders, religious leaders, artisan groups, academia, transport unionists, civil societies, leaders of the student union government, and representatives from the CDCs and CDAs in Bariga LCDA and Shomolu LGA were present at the forum.
