In order to guarantee a more secure and safe environment as well as peaceful coexistence, the Lagos State Government has emphasised the necessity of involving a larger percentage of youths in addressing certain security challenges.

The call was made on Friday at the Cabinet Office, Alausa, Ikeja, by Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), during her first meeting with the Lagos State Command’s leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

The SSG informed the Supervising Heads of the 14 Area Commands and PCRC Chairman, Apostle Kehinde Showemim, that statistics demonstrate that Nigeria has a large youth population and that, in order to reap the benefits of this demographic shift, the youth must be actively involved in shaping the country’s future.

“Bringing the youths on board will further make the work of the PCRC and other stakeholders easier,” the speaker stated. “The youths are known for their strength and energetic presence wherever they are.”

The youths, she continued, are also tech-savvy and can apply their expertise to the field of infrastructure security, which will further alter the perceptions of security in Lagos State and throughout Nigeria. The youths may also be involved in implementing the PCRC’s mandate, which is to serve as a conduit between the public and the police.

In a bid to have a more secure Lagos, Salu-Hundeyin also took advantage of the chance to reassure locals and investors that there would be sufficient security through cooperation with PCRC and other security organisations. She conveyed hope that the partnership would enhance the state’s security framework and promote Lagos residents’ safety.

The delegation is in the Cabinet Office to determine how the PRCP can support and strengthen the state government’s security efforts, according to remarks made by Kehinde Showemimo, the Chairman of the PCRC for Lagos State.

The Chairman applauded the massive intervention in funding security agencies by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. He promised to implement the State Government’s recommendations, including involving the youth in the Safer Lagos initiative.

Additionally, he stated that at the upcoming quarterly meeting, the SSG—who has consented to be a member of the PCRC—will be crowned as the Matron of PCRC Lagos Police Command.
