The Learntor Foundation has received recognition from the Lagos State Government for its innovative efforts to increase access to digital education, especially for schoolboys through the “Tech for Boyz” program.
Students from various government-owned schools across the state’s six educational districts attended the official launch of the initiative at PSSDC Mogodo, where Mr. Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, Director-General of the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Center, PSSDC, gave the commendation recently.
The “Tech for Boyz” project, according to Mr. Adio-Moses, who was represented at the event by Mr. Olusola Kolawole, Director of Management Consultancy Services, is a big step toward equipping young minds with digital literacy skills in line with the State Government’s vision of fostering inclusive and equitable education for all residents.
He said that the Learntor Foundation was using technology to bridge the digital divide among young learners in Lagos State and to give young males in Lagos the tools they need to prosper in the digital age. This was helping the state’s socioeconomic development.
The Director-General clarified that the relationship between the Learntor Foundation and the State Government, via PSSDC, highlights the significance of public-private partnerships in promoting high-quality education.
The “Tech Up Boys” Project’s consultant and creator, Mrs. Mercy George-Igbafe, expressed confidence in the project and emphasized that it will address Nigeria’s rising youth unemployment rates and widening digital divide.
She continued by saying that the Foundation has created a thorough plan that would give the pupils the necessary digital skills and help them establish a positive online presence.
She believed that youth needed all the help and attention possible due to the speed at which technology is changing and the necessity for them to adjust to the new digital environment.
In her own words, “The initiative aimed to cultivate critical thinking, responsible online behavior, and effective communication as essential attributes for success in the digital age, in addition to teaching technical skills. It did this by championing UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, which stressed Quality Education for all.”
The goal of the Tech Up Boys Project was to close the digital divide by giving all students in public schools access to digital education, acknowledging the value of inclusivity.
She claimed that the project aimed to enable young Nigerians to make a name for themselves online and take advantage of chances for both career and personal development.
