The public has been cautioned by the Lagos State Government not to handle or store flammable objects carelessly.

The commitment of Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to ensuring the safety of lives and the protection of its citizens from hazards was reaffirmed in a joint statement released over the weekend by Mr. Lanre Mojola, Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, and Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations.

According to Oyerinde, it is now crucial to educate the public about the need to practise greater caution when handling and carrying flammable materials, fuels, chemicals, and other dangerous commodities because the hazards involved are enormous and can result in significant losses in terms of lives lost, property damage, and legal action.

In his remarks, Mr. Lanre Mojola, the Director-General of the Lagos Safety Commission, stated that life has no monetary worth. He revealed that the Commission has launched the “SAFETY FOR YOU” campaign, which aims to put every Lagosian’s safety first. As per his statement, the campaign’s main objective is to increase consciousness and promote preemptive safety measures in individual, professional, and commercial settings.

The DG clarified that under extreme pressure and temperature, chemical and combustible stockpiles run the risk of exploding and catching fire. He emphasised the importance of maintaining our own and our neighbours’ safety and urged the public to assume accountability by adding, “When you see something, please say something.” “Injuries to one are injuries to all.”

Mojola encouraged craftsmen and tradespeople to get expert counsel on handling combustible materials and moving them from one place to another within the State, even as she noted that Commission officers are already scouring the area to make sure everyone is safe.

He pleaded with people to notify the local security agency or 07000SAFETY about any stockpiling of hazardous materials.
