Nigerian comedian and activist, Mr Macaroni, has expressed outrage over the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, criticizing what he sees as a lack of accountability in Nigeria.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Mr Macaroni lamented the state of governance, arguing that impunity thrives in the country due to the absence of real consequences for those in power.

“It’s not as if these countries that we call ‘saner climes’ are not corrupt oo. The difference between these countries and Nigeria is the sense of accountability at the very least. In Nigeria, there is no regard for law and order.”

The skit maker highlighted the abuse of power across various sectors, from the legislature to security agencies, emphasizing how wealth and influence protect individuals from justice.

“From the impunity in the Senate to the shamelessness and abuse of power by security agents, to the total lack of regard for the Nigerian people, everyone is free to act as irresponsibly as they wish as long as they have power or money. The real problem we have is the zero consequence for actions.”

His comments come amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension, which followed her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The decision has sparked public debate, with concerns raised about fairness, political bias, and the treatment of women in Nigerian politics.

The Senate’s decision also includes barring Senator Natasha from the National Assembly premises, stopping her salary and that of her aides, and preventing her from representing the country in any official capacity during her suspension.

Senator Neda Imasuen noted that the Senate might reconsider the suspension if Akpoti-Uduaghan submits a written apology. However, the six-month suspension was upheld following a voice vote led by Senate President Akpabio.
