One senior NFF official told BSNSports.com that the organization is still in the process of selecting the next coach for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

There hasn’t been a replacement announced by the NFL since previous Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro’s contract was terminated in February.

After concluding a lengthy meeting on Thursday night at the NFF Technical Committee’s headquarters, Sunday Dankaro House, Package B of Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, the chairman and other members of the committee declined to reveal to the media the outcome of their meeting, which essentially concerned the appointment of Jose Peseiro’s replacement.

The committee has identified two candidates for the NFF Executive Committee to consider, but it has not reached a decision on the coach of the upcoming three-time African champions. There are two choices available: selecting a foreign coach from the three selected applicants, or selecting a local coach from the top two candidates, Emmanuel Amunike and Finidi George.

Remember that the federation was given a two-week deadline to select a substantive coach by Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development.

Before facing Benin Republic on Matchday 4 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Abidjan, the 2013 African champions have two World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa in Uyo that they must win.

The dates of the two games are set for June 3–11, 2024. Super Eagles have only two points from their two Group C games, which puts them in third place.
