Nigerian singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, better known by his stage name Ruger, says there are currently fewer than five gifted artists in Nigeria. He asserts that the majority of Nigerian singers only perform for “cruise.” Ruger claimed in a recent interview with Cool FM in Lagos that the people that are brilliant and making good music are not up to five.

He did not, however, specify which other gifted Nigerian musicians he thought were in his league or where he stood on the list. “I’m not Nigeria’s top artist, but I’m in the ballpark in terms of talent. We’re not up to five,” he declared. “I’m on the list, but I won’t reveal where I am. Not up to five, though. The majority of people only sing for fun on cruises, but we gifted artists create music.

Ruger claimed that learning that he has a sizable fan base in Israel astounded him. He claimed to have sold out a 7,000-seat arena across the nation.
