Officials from the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) convened to explore potential areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing sustainability initiatives implemented by corporate entities in Nigeria.
“Climate change is fast becoming a priority for financial regulators,” said Professor Charles Anosike, director general and chief executive of NiMet, during a courtesy visit on Monday with Dr. Rabiu Olowo, executive secretary and chief executive of FRC in Abuja. Sustainable practices are based on the work that we undertake at NiMet with our weather and climate reports. Together, NiMet and FRC will be able to develop capacity thanks to this relationship.
“There are opportunities for alignment between NiMet and FRC in fulfilling the core mandates of the two agencies, especially in the areas of sustainability reporting, climate risks and opportunities,” Dr. Olowo stated as she welcomed the NiMet team. FRC is encouraging sustainable practices among Nigerian organisations even as we advocate for sustainability reporting.
During the courtesy visit, a few directors and senior employees from the two agencies were present.
