The National Orientation Agency’s (NOA) Director General, Lanre Onilu, has revealed plans to make nationalism a required subject in the country’s educational curriculum in an effort to instill moral principles and values in the next generation of students.
During a familiarization visit to the agency’s Niger State directorate in Minna, Onilu made this statement. In an interview with journalists, he stated that nationalism will be covered in the nation’s elementary, secondary, and university curricula.
He bemoaned the overexposure of kids to foreign themes in cartoons, stating: “Our agency will soon be inviting professional cartoonists to submit cartoons that support our people’s local beliefs. Additionally, NOA plans to release a mobile app soon that will have cartoons featuring Native Americans in addition to those supporting regional content, American ideals, and cultural history.
Onilu also bemoaned the fact that other cultures have infiltrated the nation’s youth, starting in their homes.
Indigenous cultures’ ethics and values have suffered from the influence of foreign culture.
“Currently, there is an attempt to alter the global narrative that portrays Nigerians in a negative light,” he insisted.
The director general of the NOA went on to say that in an effort to rid society of all negative behaviors, the organization has chosen to unify all of its initiatives under the acronym CLHEEAN, which stands for Crime, Lawlessness, Health, Education, and Environment.
Onilu continued by saying that in order to advance moral and national values at the elementary school level, the organization will shortly establish 37,000 citizen brigades throughout the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT.
