The Apapa Local Development Council Area in Lagos and the Nigerian Ports Authority have teamed to provide clean water to the locals through the Apapa Mini-Water Works.

Idowu Senbanjo, the Chairman of Apapa LCDA, announced this on Tuesday. He stated that the action was in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goal 6 of the UN, which guarantees everyone has access to and continuous management of water and sanitation.

Senbanjo clarified that a lot of work had been done with the NPA’s assistance, and the council had been burdened by the absence of drinkable water.

For us at Apapa, not having clean water was a major problem. Boreholes were dug, but people could not obtain portable water. We looked into the source of the rising typhoid cases and found that the cost of purchasing water was rising, she stated.

Senbanjo continued, “It was found that most of the reticulations were in poor condition when the project started.” We had to make sure that they were fixed so that the locals could have access to drinkable water after they had been abandoned for about 15 years, which is why we are in this situation now. Senbanjo continued, “This is a significant initiative, and we are grateful to the NPA, the primary funder who allowed our small waterworks to operate once more.

The LCDA Chairman established the Apapa Residence Development Committee to solve the issue of potable water supply, as previously mentioned by Rear Admiral Austin Oyagha (retd), the committee’s chairman.

“It was our good fortune that the NPA, via one of its subsidiaries, assumed responsibility for the sponsorship. The major sections of the reticulations on Liverpool Road suffered significant damage during their reconstruction. He stated, “We have replaced them and implemented certain security measures. We have restored all the damages, even some that were taken and could not be retrieved.

During the facility tour, Oluwabi Ayodele, the Southwest Regional Business Manager of Lagos Water Corporation, also gave a speech in which he thanked the chairman and all other stakeholders for their contributions to the project’s success.

Ayodele asked everyone living in Apapa to collaborate with the Lagos State Water Corporation by giving them the input they needed on how well the reticulations were working and by reporting any leaks to the company right away.

He pointed out that buildings without the facilities may only take advantage of the water project by registering with the agency.
