As part of ongoing efforts to remove criminal elements that are impeding Lagos residents’ ability to travel and forcing them to cross highways rather than use pedestrian bridges for safety, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has successfully prosecuted 27 miscreants for offenses including violating public peace and unlawfully converting government property.
“The recent successful prosecution of these criminally-minded individuals is a testament to the resolve of KAI to ensure that there is total compliance with provisions of the law to ensure pedestrians’ safety across major highways in Lagos State,” stated Major Olatunbosun Olaniyi Cole (Rtd), the Corps Marshal of the Agency, at the Agency’s Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi.
Cole disclosed that the enforcement action was executed by coordinated incursions on the pedestrian bridges located at Oshodi, Ladipo, PWD, Bolade, and National.
He disclosed that the prisoners had previously appeared before Chief Magistrate S.A. Adefioye at the Special Offenses Mobile Court Oshodi, where they had been found guilty on two counts and given a five-month prison sentence.
In addition, the General Manager said that criminals who enjoy robbing pedestrians of their belongings would have nowhere to hide. He counseled locals to utilize the bridges appropriately in order to guarantee their safety at all times.
