Qing Madi Named Spotify’s First EQUAL Africa Artist of 2025

Nigerian singer and songwriter Qing Madi was recently announced as  Spotify’s EQUAL Africa Artist for January 2025. This prestigious recognition places the 18-year old superstar alongside a list of celebrated African talents such as Ayra Starr, Tyla, and Tems, who have all been previously spotlighted by the programme.

Having already been featured on the EQUAL playlist, Qing Madi’s latest achievement as a featured artist solidifies her place as one of the leading voices in African music. Her career trajectory continues to rise, and her success is further evident in Spotify’s Wrapped 2024 report, where she was named among the top-streamed female artists in Nigeria and Ghana.

Additionally, her hit song “American Love” was ranked as the second most-streamed song in Uganda, further solidifying her reach across the continent.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, expressed her excitement over Qing Madi’s recognition, saying, “Qing Madi is a phenomenal talent whose music resonates deeply with audiences both in Africa and beyond.
