Senator Tokunbo Abiru Unveils Second Phase Of Social Support Programmes For Market Women, Traders, Students

Appeals to Nigerians To Show Understanding with President Tinubu, Donates N5million into Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Welift Fund.

 

The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, has disclosed that support is underway for market women, traders and students in the senatorial district as many households grapple with economic challenges.

 

Senator Abiru, who was the chairman of the occasion at the N50 million Welift 1,000 programme, an initiative of the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, under the leadership of Executive Chairman, Mayor Dele Osinowo, commended the initiative describing it as remarkable and impactful. The lawmaker also widened the empowerment net by donating the sum of five million naira for more residents to benefit.

 

In a statement issued by the Senator’s media aide, Mr. Enitan Olukotun on Friday, noted that the lawmaker commended the various people-centric social intervention programmes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that of Governor of Lagos, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to cushion the impact of the hardship caused by the removal of petrol subsidy, and other major economic reform policies. Senator Abiru reiterated his commitments to the welfare of Lagos Constituents through various interventions.

 

He said, “ As we know, the President, being the people’s President and also a renowned economic manager, is mindful of the current challenges of today, and as such instituted social intervention programmes to ameliorate some of the immediate hardships. They include: Conditional Cash Transfer, Food Support Programme, Student Loans, Introduction of Condensed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, to moderate high cost of transportation, support for pharmaceutical sector and huge investment agriculture to combat high cost of food and to ensure national food security.

 

“Equally, our State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has also come up with rafts of social intervention programmes, such as special food markets, 25 percent rebate on public transportation, scholarship programmes, direct support for micro, small and medium enterprises.

 

“In a similar manner, in the Lagos East Senatorial District under my watch, we are also in the process of putting forward the second phase of our own social support programmes both for MSMEs through financial support for LASCOTA, market women and traders and farmers to be unveiled in the month of October, and student support finance as well in January, 2025”.
