Sen. John Owan Enoh, the minister of sports development, has praised Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the 100-meter hurdles world record holder, for setting a new world record on Sunday at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational with a timing of 12.40 seconds.
Senator Enoh encouraged her to keep improving in the sport and emphasised that her achievement indicates Nigeria would break the curse of winning a gold medal in the track in the upcoming Olympics in Paris, France.
“Take your flowers,” the minister wrote on his Facebook post. At the Jamaica Athletics Invitational, Tobi Amusan dominated the women’s 100-meter hurdles event, setting a world record with a time of 12.40 seconds (0.9)!
Danielle Williams, the world champion, finished second in 12.46 seconds, and Christina Clemons finished third in 12.54 seconds.
You continue to make our nation proud, Tobi. The Olympics in Paris are quickly approaching, and like many others, your performance gives us optimism that Nigeria will finally break the curse. We are extremely proud of you; keep on flying.”
