Super Eagles stunned as Benin dent World Cup Qualification Hope

The 2026 World Cup qualification series’ fourth matchday saw Benin Republic upset the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a 2-1 victory.

 

This means that, in 64 years of participating in World Cup qualifying, the Super Eagles have failed to win. This is a first.

 

With seven points, Benin Republic currently temporarily leads the table, while Nigeria is in fifth in a group of six teams. It was a significant victory for Benin Republic.

 

 

The qualifiers’ fifth matchday will take place in March 2025.

 

The qualification series is not over until six more games are played. Before today’s loss, Nigeria had drew three of their previous games. They scored four goals and gave up five goals in their 1-1 draw with Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
