As preparations for the Games ramp up, Team Nigeria’s delegation to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, will start setting up camp locally on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in five locations: Abuja, Lagos, Bayelsa State, and Sokoto. The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled for July 26–August 11.

This was revealed Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja at a ministerial strategic technical meeting between the national sports federation’s presidents, secretaries, and technical directors and Senator John Enoh, the minister of sports development.

Speaking to important stakeholders about Team Nigeria’s preparation and performance at the Games, Senator JEnoh pushed federation presidents to aim higher than the last time around in Atlanta, stating that Nigeria must better the record set at the 1996 Olympics in the upcoming 2024 Games in Paris.

He added that the purpose of the meeting was to develop a detailed roadmap and technical training programmes for Team Nigeria in order to get them ready for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.

He stated that the Ministerial Podium Performance Committee and the Federation and Elite Athletes Department (FEAD) would carefully review these plans to make sure Team Nigeria is headed in the correct direction towards medals.

Overtaking our greatest Olympic accomplishment is what we ought to strive for. The Minister stated, “We must build on our previous achievements and aim for excellence in Paris 2024.”

The Minister underlined that Team Nigeria’s success depends on both internal and international preparations. “It is imperative to combine overseas training tours with home camping. It guarantees that our athletes are fit and ready to compete at the greatest level,” he continued.

In contrast, local camping in Ibadan, Lagos, Abuja, and Bayelsa will formally begin this weekend. Following that, there will be overseas training excursions, with the United States, Germany, Spain, and Italy being among the most popular locations.

Only 88 Nigerian competitors have earned spots in the Olympics thus far, with numerous others still awaiting qualification.
