A new dress code has been implemented by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for all consumer protection officials employed by the country’s airports.

The launch happened over the weekend in Abuja as part of the Consumer Protection Department’s rebranding initiative.

The new dress code, which goes well with the industrial norms and goes well with the T-shirts and traditional garb already in use, calls for a sharply crested blue waistcoat with a modern appeal, a white shirt, and a hat.

The newly instituted dress code is accompanied with new NCAA Consumer Protection Desks at airports and soon-to-be awareness initiatives.

In a statement, Michael Achimugu, the director of public affairs and consumer protection for the NCAA, stated that the goal of the action is to improve service delivery and increase their exposure in the event of complaints.

“This rebranding is in line with the five-point agenda of the minister of aviation and aerospace development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, which focuses on passenger rights, privileges, and responsibilities,” he added. “It comes with improved staff welfare, training, and re-orientation for a better output.” The minister has made it clear that he prioritizes the passenger experience ever since taking office.

Captain Chris Najomo, the interim director general of civil aviation, has embraced this project. During the launch of his vision board in Lagos in January 2024, he informed stakeholders that aviation customers will be better protected while he was in charge.

Regarding the upgrading process, Achimugu said that the flying public will be sufficiently informed about their rights and obligations prior to, during, and after a flight because the Authority places a high priority on consumer complaints.

Achimugu stated that the consumer protection division of the Authority is now proactive in responding to customer concerns, since all legitimate cases are handled promptly under the current leadership.

He advised customers to handle their problems politely and through the proper procedures, and they will be resolved quickly.
