Grammy-winning musician Burna Boy has stated that the only industry veterans in Nigerian music that he respects are Timaya, D’banj, Wande Coal, Larry Gaaga, and 2Baba.
The self-described “African Giant” claims that these are the only legends who have had an influence on his life and profession.
In response to seasoned producer ID Cabasa’s recent appeal for Nigerian musicians to honour legends, Burna Boy made this statement.
“The only OGs who have impacted my life; number one, Timaya, because he is the one who showed me that achieving stardom was possible,” he remarked in a recent Instagram live session with followers. He has my undying regard for the rest of my life.
“D’banj helped me back then as well. He funded the video for “Wan Da Mo.” I never make jokes with these two folks. It’s not that n*ggas lack respect—quite the opposite—we simply remember the folks we saw during the bad times because of everything we’ve been through. Individuals who enjoy Larry Gaaga. He was there for me then. I shall therefore always respect these individuals.
In my opinion, those are the only other names who qualify as OGs, except from 2Face, because of his musicality and the fact that he collaborated with me on a feature back when it wasn’t required. These are my originals. I don’t consider anyone else to be an OG. ID Cabasa, you get to meet Olamide and get to be his original generation [laughs]. Everybody has experienced life in a unique way, and we all have unique perspectives on it.
Not to be forgotten is Wande Coal. I remember how close we used to be.
