UNIZIK Expels Student for Assaulting Lecturer Over TikTok Video

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, over her physical attack on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.

In an expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, the university stated that the decision was based on the recommendation of the Student Disciplinary Committee. The committee found her actions to be a severe breach of the institution’s disciplinary code, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).

The incident, which sparked widespread reactions after a video went viral, involved Precious assaulting Dr. Chukwudi Okoye following his interruption of a TikTok video she was recording on campus. The altercation led to public outrage, with many calling for strict disciplinary measures.

According to the expulsion letter, the decision takes immediate effect, and the university has directed Precious to vacate the campus and return any school property in her possession.

The letter stated:

“The Acting Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee regarding your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies. This act has been deemed gross misconduct and a violation of the Students’ Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).

“As a result, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the committee’s recommendation for your expulsion. You are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, with immediate effect.

“You are required to leave the university premises immediately and return any university property in your possession.”
