Saturday, April 6th, marked a memorable occasion as dignitaries and parents gathered at Vicmob Schools to witness a captivating presentation of the play “Sisi Eko,” directed by Akapo Joshua.
“Sisi Eko” delves into the historical narratives of three prominent women – Madam Tinubu, Erelu Kuti, and Alimotu Pelewura – who played pivotal roles in shaping the vibrant cultural landscape of Lagos. Their legacies as women of excellence continue to inspire generations.
Mrs. Modupe Folarin, the Director of Studies, expressed her delight at the success of the play, emphasizing the school’s commitment to showcasing students’ creativity while imparting historical knowledge of Lagos and Yoruba culture.
The performance, which included the play itself, music, and dance, showcased the talent and dedication of the school children. Parents were enthralled as they watched their children bring historical characters to life on stage, connecting them to the rich history of Lagos.
Among the distinguished guests was the Olori of Ọọnirisa, Her Regal Majesty Amb. Dr. Temitope Enitan- Ogunwusi, who praised the students for their exceptional performances and highlighted the importance of cultural education.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Akeeb Adebowale Rauf, Alaye of Orisunmbare, commended the students for their outstanding display of artistry, particularly their proficiency in speaking the Yoruba dialect.
The event was attended by parents, government functionaries representing various state ministries, arts enthusiasts, and well-wishers, all of whom applauded the production team and school management for their commendable efforts in staging a memorable performance.
Vicmob Schools’ celebration of cultural heritage through “Sisi Eko” serves as a testament to the importance of preserving and promoting Nigeria’s rich history and traditions.
