Former Premier League star William Gallas has told his former club Chelsea to stay away from Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen has been one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe after his exceptional performances for Italian outfit SSC Napoli.

Osimhen’s Napoli record:

London club Chelsea are one of Europe’s biggest linked with a possible move for Nigerian star Osimhen.

The 24-year-old enhanced his reputation as one of the best strikers in Europe after he inspired Napoli to the league title last season.

Osimhen netted 26 goals to lead Napoli to a first-ever Serie A title in 33 years, with the Nigerian forward named the best striker.

The Napoli star became the first African to win the best striker award in the league’s 125-year history.

Gallas warns Chelsea:

With the Blues suffering to score goals, Osimhen’s name has been mooted as a possible solution for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

However, former Blues defender, Gallas, has told the club to stay away from Osimhen and believes in their summer signing from Villarreal, Nicolas Jackson.

According to a report from Tribal Football, while Gallas admitted that Chelsea need a 20-goal striker to lead the attack, he adds that the Blues should forget their interest in Osimhen and focus on Jackson.

“Victor Osimhen joining Chelsea would harm the confidence of players like Nicolas Jackson,” Gallas stated. “You have to be careful and think about bringing in a new striker. As I said before, I think Chelsea should finish the season with Jackson and see how many goals he gets.

“We also need to see how he improves. He has the quality to do so. Chelsea need to let Jackson get to work. Scoring goals will always boost the confidence of a striker, and Jackson’s hat-trick against Tottenham will definitely boost him, we’ll see that confidence carry over into his next games.

On what Chelsea need, Gallas added;

“Chelsea need a striker who’ll score at least 20 goals a season. I don’t know if Jackson will do that, but at least he’s scoring. I hope more goals come for him. I think Chelsea should stick with the squad they have. They’ve bought so many players, and the squad needs to get to know each other.

“It’s looking like Chelsea are slowly starting to improve. I said a few months ago that the Chelsea squad isn’t ready to fight for the title or qualify for the Champions League. They will, however, improve from last season. I’m sure that they’ll be very strong next season and the one after.”

Pochettino’s Blues will look to build on their emphatic 4-1 win over Tottenham last weekend when they face Manchester City on Sunday.

Jackson was in super form against Spurs after he netted an unexpected hattrick against their nine-man city rivals.
