Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, has called her experience in a Ugandan jail a blessing in disguise.

The “Crazy Things” singer said she felt privileged to have been a prisoner.

Tems clarified that if she hadn’t gone through what inmates were going through, she wouldn’t have understood.

She underlined how her time in prison had made her more humble.

Being in prison was an extremely humbling experience for Tems, who told ES Magazine, “I actually feel honoured to have had this once in a lifetime experience because otherwise, I would never have thought about these people.”

Remember that on December 12, 2020, Tems and Omah Lay attended a performance at Speke Resort in Kampala, Uganda, in violation of COVID-19 social distancing rules. They were later taken into custody, charged with a crime, and imprisoned in Uganda.

After spending two nights in detention, they were eventually given bail.
