The Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has described the 8th edition of the Lagos Women Run as a veritable platform to globally celebrate women, promote the culture of healthy living and showcase the State as a centre of excellence.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu, represented by Dr. Modinat Akiolu, stated this in her address at the event, applauding the women who participated in the unique race as well as the invited elite athletes from the iconic start point of Tafawa Balewa Square to the endpoint of Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan, Lagos.

She also extended her special commendation to the Lagos State Government and the organising body of the largest women’s fitness race in Africa for their ingenuity in providing a rare opportunity for Nigerians, Lagosians and other nationalities to be part of the competition.

“Promoting a healthy lifestyle and active living is important to the Lagos State Government, especially for the present administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. It is, therefore, commendable that the philosophy mantra behind the Lagos Women Run is about embracing a culture of general well-being that the government and indeed other stakeholders are proud to be associated with”, she said.

The Lagos State First Lady further assured that the State Government’s policies and programmes will continue to be tailored towards creating an enabling and safe environment for all women and girls to thrive and be productive.

Recall that Lagos based long distance runner, Abiye Joy David clinched the first position in the open category of the 8th edition Lagos Women Run which commenced at the Tafawa Balewa Square and terminated at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan.
