LAGOS GOVERNMENT INSPECTS HISTORIC PALACE OF OBA OF LAGOS, PLANS RESTORATION*

In a move to preserve the state’s cultural heritage, the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, led a team of senior officials from the National Museum on a comprehensive inspection of the Historic Palace of Oba of Lagos, located on Lagos Island.

The inspection, which took place on Thursday, aimed to assess the current condition of the palace’s aged and deteriorating structures. The visit highlighted the government’s commitment to safeguarding the cultural significance of this iconic landmark.

According to officials, the inspection will inform critical restoration efforts required to prevent further degradation and ensure the palace remains a symbol of Lagos’ rich heritage for generations to come.

The palace, also known as Iga Iduganran, holds deep historical and cultural importance to the people of Lagos, and the government’s restorative measures will aim to preserve its integrity and cultural value.
