In the next two years, 95 million National Identity Numbers (NINs) are expected to be registered, according to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Over 105 million NINs have reportedly been granted, according to Kayode Adegoke, head of corporate communications at NIMC, who made this announcement over the weekend via an X Space to inform Nigerians about the NIMC Self-Service Modification portal.

There are currently approximately 200 million people living in Nigeria, according to estimates. Currently, the NIMC has issued about 105 million NINs; in the next two years, it hopes to issue approximately 95 million NINs.

Over 105 million NIN have been granted to lawful permanent residents and Nigerians as of as now. We want to reassure Nigerians that we would enroll every Nigerian within the next year or two,” he stated.

He continued by saying that NIN is always accepting new members and that the organization will succeed if all Nigerians are signed up.

Thus, Adegoke urged Nigerians to make use of the self-service alteration portal so they could edit their data without going to the NIMC office in person. “Previously, you had to come to our office or any of our centers to go and make the update if an applicant had issues with the data on their NIN.

“The goal of this service is to make sure that Nigerians, whether they live in this country or overseas, may get modifications without having to visit a center or be physically present. Nigerians can modify their phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, names, and other information using this website. Adegoke clarified, “They can do all of these on their iOS or Android-based devices in the comfort of their homes or offices.”

Adegoke stated that all changes are now finished through the self-service website in 24-48 hours, as opposed to the past when users had to wait months for the alteration to take effect.

In answer to questions on the differences between the long-running NIMC mobile app and the self-service portal, Adegoke, the NIMC self-service portal, stated that the two systems have separate functions.

Regarding his claim, the mobile app can be used for identification and allows mobile numbers to be linked to NIN, but the self-service site only allows data updating, which is not available on the ap
